What’s happening with view counts?

You may have noticed some recent changes in the number of views on your videos and channels. This is happening because we’re simultaneously changing how we count channel views and fixing some problems with counts on individual videos.

Your channel views will reflect what people can watch: We recently changed how we display total views on a channel. In the past, we’d count all the views of all your videos, even for videos that you may have deleted or made private. To make this less confusing to viewers, we’re transitioning to only displaying the total views of videos that are publicly available on the channel. So if you’ve deleted videos or made them private or unlisted, those views have been (or soon will be) removed from your channel total.

We're cleaning up bugs: You may have noticed a spike in views from mobile devices on Jan. 11-15, 2013. That was a bug on our end, and we’re going to fix that today on the video page, and you’ll see the correct view counts in YouTube Analytics over the next few days. You may also have noticed that some of your video views look low for Jan. 25-27, compared with the number of comments, shares, and likes on your videos. That was due to a one-time error in how we verify legitimate views, and we’re going to restore those views over the next several days.

  6. Actually, my daily viewcounts cut to about half (on average) starting around January 8 & have not recovered. Hopefully this error fix will get them back up to normal. (?)

  7. Why should you delete the views of the videos which were deleted? Confusing to whom? Do channel visitors spend their time adding the number of views of the published videos and are surprised that the total doesn't match? The number of channel views represents the number of views the listeners got from that channel and it doesn't matter if the videos are still there or not.

    2. This is annoying, i just had to delete all my videos because of copyright issues and now my channel looks unprofessional, and even though it has taken the views off, the view count is stuck on 10

  8. I agree with Herur, this is stupid to delete the views just because the video is no longer there, fact is it WAS there and I did get those views, so why would you delete them now only because the video is gone? It's channel views and my channel got those views. Please do not remove them.

  9. I have to agree with Herur and Candy Lifshes. I don't see a reasonable enough incentive to completely wipe off those views. In my case that'd be more than half my total views I have at this moment, I wouldn't like losing them.

  13. I deleted most of my videos so that I could get partnership, now the views get taken away and I am no longer eligible. I've lost over 20,000 views. I do not see a good reason for this.

  15. I gotta say I can see where you're coming from (guys at YouTube) but taking away our channel views from videos no longer on our account or private is not cool. We did get those views so it's only fair we keep them. I've had videos removed due to false flagging and have lost a good 8,000 + views and the video. So not only will I be losing the videos, I'll me losing what they brought to my total video views...great.

  31. YouTube is NOT removing views. If you login to your channel, take a look at your total channel views in Analytics. Then look at what's displayed to the public on your channel. The difference you see should clear up any confusion here. If you have no Unlisted or Private videos, the total views should be identical.

  49. I have unlisted video, which I have never posted. Yesterday I have noticed that every time I click on my video the score number adds one view. Within a minute I have added 170 views to my unlisted video and then made it public. This IS a glitch. I am sure I am not the only one who has noticed this. Plus if I have a featured video (or trailer) I can add up clicks to it from my computer no matter if I am registered or not!
